Match report for Ladies 1st XI v BAMBC 11/10/09 Print

AGSFP 1's v BAMBC                             North District Division One

11-OCT-09                                             Noon at Portlethen

Result

3:2 win Laughing

(scorers Kim Stuart (1); Lindsay Geddes (1); Emma Mair (1))

After another weekend off the 1’s were lined up to play BAMBC 2’s at Portlethen on a particularly windy day.  Once again the lack of a run of matches was of concern for their Captain Sari Johnson and with one or two of the players a little under the weather as the start approached it would be fair to say the team knew this game would be a challenge.  Kim Stuart was also sporting a large bruise from hurting her leg at training during the week and was therefore only fit to ‘take it easy’ up front.  That meant bad news for a couple of the midfield who had hoped to take the up front role for the day! BAMBC attacked right from the whistle and woke up the Grammar girls with an early drive at goal.  However Grammar soon settled into their stride and created a couple of excellent chances at the other end.  In fact the chances came thick and fast and when they were awarded a penalty corner Emma Mair switched it to Lindsay Geddes who switched it back to Emma who managed to slip the ball to Kim Stuart who tucked away the first goal for Grammar.  Kirsty Nicoll came close to opening her account for the season when Emma Mair played two further penalty corners to her at the post and Kirsty narrowly missed connecting with the passes.   The team played some good hockey and created a few more chances before Lindsay Geddes took the ball all the way down the right flank and beat several players on the way.  She converted her hard work and pushed the ball from right on the back line and it deflected in passed the goalkeeper.  Her efforts had been well rewarded.  The girls went three goals up just before half time when Emma Mair took a straight strike from another penalty corner, this time planting the ball in the bottom right of the goal. Half-time came and the girls knew the game was far from over.  More of the same was expected but with just ten minutes gone in the second half a goal mouth incident meant Helen Bruce had to retire from the game injured having been hit by the ball on her cheek.  Grammar was very unfortunate to lose Helen and her absence certainly had an effect on the rest of the game.   To add insult to injury, if you’ll pardon the pun, play resumed with Grammar unsettled and very quickly BAMBC capitalised on this and managed to get a goal when they struck a penalty corner into goal following the restart directly after the injury.  The Grammar girls were then under pressure again as the BAMBC girls realised the Grammar team were rattled.  A couple of quick moves from BAMBC caught the Grammar team out of position and the BAMBC girls got their second goal of the day.  The Grammar team then settled a bit and in fact came very close to scoring on three further occasions before the final whistle came.  A well deserved win.  Helen’s injury was not as bad as was first thought, a relief to the Grammar girls was also.   Squad : Sari Johnson, Helen Bruce, Beth Fiddes, Emma Mair, Shona Philips, Lindsay Geddes, Kirsty Nicoll, Chelsea Gray, Fiona Cameron, Mo Rose, Kim Stuart, Eilidh Crawford.
