Match report for Ladies 1st XI v GCW 2's 27/09/09 Print

AGSFP 1's v GCW 2                                          North District Division One

27-SEPT-09                                                        Noon at Rubislaw

Result

4:1 win Laughing

(Scorers Morag Rose (2); Emma Mair (2))

After a two week break the 1’s returned to League action with a potentially tough match against Granite City Wanderer’s 2nd XI.  The teams had met in a pre-season friendly and the Grammar girls knew they’d have their work cut out to orchestrate a win. The early exchanges were encouraging for the Grammar team and they created a few early chances.  The first goal came from a long corner played very accurately by Lindsay Geddes to Emma Mair who spotted a gap and slotted it through to Morag Rose who netted a close range effort decisively.  Morag’s second goal came from a penalty corner routine where the initial shot rebounded and Morag spotted the chance to slot another goal away.   The Grammar girls had a comfortable first half and the midfield worked hard to close down the GCW midfield who were fast on the break.  Chelsea Gray and Kirsty Nicoll worked hard to make the GCW team use the wings more.  As ever Shona Phillips broke down a number of attacks on the right wing.  The Grammar girls then managed a couple of penalty corners towards half time and a deflection helped Emma Mair score her first of the day from a straight strike from the top of the circle.  Half time came with the Grammar girls up by three goals to nil. The second half proved harder work and although the Grammar team created a few more excellent chances the GCW defence help up well.  Against the run of play GCW secured their goal.  The Grammar girls were not disheartened and went on to create a number of further penalty corners.  They utilised the variety of corners they have to good effect and both Lindsay Geddes and Kim Stuart were unlucky not to score.  Finally Emma Mair had another straight strike and got their fourth goal without a deflection this time!  4-1 was a good result and the team had a couple of regulars missing and welcomed Beth Fiddes to the 1’s for her first match and she acquitted herself very well.  Squad : Sari Johnson, Helen Bruce, Beth Fiddes, Emma Mair, Shona Philips, Lindsay Geddes, Kirsty Nicoll, Chelsea Gray, Fiona Cameron, Mo Rose, Kim Stuart, Elaine Yeoman, Trish Walker.
