AGSFP 1’s v Ellon North District Division One 5-Sept-09 1.30pm at Rubislaw Result 2:0 win (scorers Emma Mair (1); Lindsay Geddes (1))
The 2009-2010 season opened for the Grammar FP Ladies first team on a bright day at Rubislaw. Having finished the previous season in third place in the North District Division One the assembled crew were looking forward to another challenging season. Sari Johnson, the new Captain for this season, had picked the best side available to her and was ready to commence battle with Ellon Ladies who pose a threat every time they take the field. The other battle going on was the one with the new rules. This was the first time that most of the team had the opportunity to play under the new rules in anger. A challenge for both the players and the two umpires! The game set off at a fast pace and the teams certainly gave their all right from the start. Although both sides looked a little rusty there were moments of well constructed hockey from both teams. Both sides created early chances. The deadlock was broken just before half-time when Grammar had a penalty corner. A slick ball from Mo Rose to the top of the circle allowed Emma Mair to make a slip pass to Lindsay Geddes who returned the ball to Emma who slotted it into the net. Just before half time Ellon had a penalty corner and Jo Rice and Helen Bruce got out well to the ball and cleared it to keep the Grammar girls in front going into the break. The team was reminded at half time to be alert and they got back on the pitch hungry for more goals. Ellon applied pressure and had it not been for some sharp defending, might have capitalised. Grammar’s new look midfield worked hard throughout against a tough Ellon midfield. Eilidh Crawford and Mo Rose worked hard up front and created some chances. The team then secured another penalty corner and this time when Emma slipped the ball to Lindsay she took a strike and netted the goal. The Grammar girls came close to goal on a third penalty corner in the dying seconds of the game when Emma made a straight strike on goal at another penalty corner and hit the post. Squad : Sari Johnson, Helen Bruce, Jo Rice, Emma Mair, Shona Philips, Lindsay Geddes, Alex Grant, Kirsty Nicol, Chelsea Gray, Eilidh Crawford, Mo Rose, Fiona Cameron, Elaine Yeoman. |
